Some people have asked us why we want to adopt. We have been able to have biological children. Adoption can be expensive, a long-drawn out process. It can get messy - birthmothers can change their minds, and a whole host of other things can happen.
The second reason we believe in adopting plays a significant role in answering this question.
Aaron and I have both been adopted. We have been adopted into the family of God. While we were unlovely, alone, abandoned, and in desperate spiritual trouble because of our sin, God chose to rescue us. He chose to set his love and affection on us. He chose to adopt us and make us full heirs into his family.
We didn't deserve this love. We didn't do anything that drew His attention to us, but he took care of us because he knows us better than we know ourselves, and he knew we were in great need.
This is a big part of the reason we want to adopt a child. We love the picture that adoption of a child demonstrates about our spiritual adoption by God our Father.
We have grown a lot in our understanding of the spiritual side of adoption as we have been blessed to sit under the teaching of 2 amazing churches here in New Mexico. You can find online teachings about this topic here, here, here, and finally...here.
